‘Gundam SEED’ Gets 10th Anniversary HD Remaster – Generation Of Fans Feel Old

2 min read

One of the way to measure how long someone has been into anime is to see which Gundam generation they come from. For one of those generations, the Gundam SEED generation, they’re about to feel old as it’s coming on the 10th anniversary in 2012. And Sunrise is looking to celebrate (i.e. make money) by giving the series a high definition remaster and release. The first of several box sets is due out on March 23rd and will contain a paltry eleven episodes for 21,000 yen for the limited edition and 18,900 yen for the regular edition. The set has the basics with a special booklet, a cover jacket and on disc extras such as commentary and clean opening and closing sequences. The show is also getting promoted on TV again as it will be rebroadcast on New Years in order to reignite the fervor of a generation.

Plot Concept: Year 70 of the Cosmic Era. The Coordinators, a group of genetically enhanced humans, have moved into colonies orbiting the Earth. But that hasn’t quieted the tensions between them and regular humans; the conflict soon escalates into a full-scale war. On the neutral colony of Heliopolis, Kira Yamato, and his friends are going to school and just being kids. But when the ZAFT commando forces attack, Kira’s life changes forever.

Left with no choice, he and Federation officer Murrue Ramius are thrown into battle in a prototype mobile weapon, which Kira christens “GUNDAM.” Now, Kira must defend himself and his friends from his own people. For, unknown to anyone else, Kira is a Coordinator. And the enemy he faces on the battlefield is his childhood best friend, Athrun!
