One of the best movies of the summer, and one that had the best legs out there with its continuing grosses and overall return on investment, is gearing up for its next round by ensuring that it can get back the critical actor for it. 20th Century Fox has secured Andy Serkis to come back and play the role of Casear from Rise of the Planet of the Apes for the next feature. With a $93 million budget, the feature made $450 million theatrically worldwide and ensured that they would move to the next stage. Serkis’ role as Caesar through motion capture gave the character an immense range of emotions and intensity and completely made it a believable part and showed just how far things have gone in the last decade of motion capture and CG based characters interacting with real people. Fox has exercised its option on the director, Rupert Wyatt, and has engaged original writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver to pen a new story. Only Serkis didn’t have a sequel clause in there and managed to work that problem into what’s being reported as a solid deal for the sequel.
