New ‘Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure’ Anime & Live Action Movies In Works

2 min read

What came from the 80’s isn’t in vogue just in Hollywood these days as Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure looks to be getting some progress on both the live action and animated fronts. The movie section of Shuukan Bunshun has a report that two separate studios are working on these projects with plans for them to debut either next summer or just thereafter. The manga property had a strong run for ten years when it kicked off in 1987 as well as several follow up series and a new one that started this year as well. Add in the many games and the anime OVA series (which was released in the US by SuperTechnoArts along with the manga from Viz Media, though neither gained much traction) and it’s not a surprise to see the studios going after known quantities with big name projects.

Plot Concept: The story of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure centers around the misadventures of the Joestars, a powerful family with English roots; most of its members attract the most particular trials and tribulations when confronting their enemies. Each member of the bloodline has a star shaped birthmark above their left shoulder blade – Dio, the nemesis of the Joestar family and his descendants have this distinguishable mark also, as a result from Dio’s ‘theft’ of Jonathan Joestar’s body and inheriting the Joestar genes as well. The series spans several generations, with each part featuring a descendent of the Joestars as the main protagonist along with a large cast of characters.
