Life at the new academy isn’t all it’s cracked up to be since some of them just can’t get into trouble and need to.
What They Say:
Sadohara thinks that by making the Ishiyama students do their own physical examinations that they’re sure to cause trouble, which would be enough to get them all expelled! But when Furuichi and Oga end up hiding under a desk while the girls get changed, they’ve got trouble of a whole other kind…

Life at the new academy continues to have its problems for the gang as they really don’t fit in, though it’s amusing to watch how some of the regular students try to interact with the hooligans and not really get it since they’re more curious than anything else. The faculty is completely dismissive of them and really want as little to do with them as possible, which is further evidenced now that the regular physical exams are taking place and they’re not even going to “waste” the time of one of their students to deal with the exams of them so they’re forced to get them done themselves since it does need to be done. The tension between the two sides is definitely there, though it’s more that the teachers are completely frustrated by the whole situation.
With the girls running the show, since they’re obviously not going to let the guys do the exams on them, it’s pretty rough for all involved. They’re not keen on seeing these guys shirtless and the guys are frustrated by how they’re being manhandled and their not being able to run the exams on them. Of course, some of them do end up in a good place with all of this as Oga and Furuichi and Beel end up accidentally stuck in a compartment that lets them watch the girls give each other the exam. Some aren’t exactly thrilled with the thing in general, but the running commentary is the usual but definitely enjoyable bit as they compare chest sizes and get a bit hands on in the cute and playful way it’s always portrayed.
Of course, they do have to be caught to some degree and having one of the teachers come in at the right time, or wrong time depending on perspective, only makes it worse. Aoi is definitely a character that I like, especially when she gets decidedly serious but does it with a bright smile and an underlying threat that is just as impressive as what Oga does when he’s going all out. With Beel causing a lot of the trouble, that doesn’t excuse anything but allows for the show to take some fun turns along the way. But as always, it’s Furuichi you have to feel the worst for because of the amount of abuse he takes and often actually earns. Things do go a bit over the top towards the end of this episode with what Beel gets involved in, but the execution is spot on and it left me laughing even while cringing.
In Summary:
Beelzebub works with a pretty standard school plot point this time around and does it to good effect. That’s been a good part of the charm of the series, especially as it does avoid going over the top with various aspects of it. The whole physical exam side doesn’t turn smutty, even in the eyes of those like Furuichi. It’s in his mind, but we don’t actually see it, instead letting the imagination run wild. There’s some really cute competition going on here between Oga and Beel about the size of their cars too, which is strange to say, but is done in a very fun way here that lets the two of them have a good time. Sometimes seeing how Beel views the world, and Oga, adds up to good times and this is definitely one of them.
