This anime adaptation of Tachibana Higuchi’s ongoing Gakuen Alice manga features direction by Takahiro Omori (Baccano!, Hell Girl), as well as performances by Kana Ueda (“Yumi” in Maria Watches Over Us, “Rin” in Fate/stay Night and “Honami” in Rental Magica); Rie Kugimiya (“Alphonse Elric” in Fullmetal Alchemist, “Touko” in Maria Watches Over Us and “Shana” in Shakugan no Shana); Romi Park (“Edward Elric” in Fullmetal Alchemist, “Nana O.” in NANA); and Akira Ishida (“Chrono” in Chrono Crusade, “Xellos” in The Slayers).

The original Gakuen Alice manga is serialized in Japan’s Hana to Yume girls’ anthology magazine, where it has appeared alongside titles including Fruits Basket, Hana-Kimi, Skip Beat! and S.A (Special A) since its 2003 debut. It was published in North America by TOKYOPOP.

Mikan and Hotaru are best friends! (Well, according to Mikan, anyway. Hotaru doesn’t seem to care.) Then one day, Hotaru is escorted away in a fancy black car, apparently scouted by a school in Tokyo called “Alice Academy.” Crushed at the loss of her favorite pal, Mikan scurries after her, determined to enroll, too! But Alice Academy is a mysterious place. Can Mikan tough it out in a school where explosions, superpowers, giant baby chicks and axe-wielding teddy bears are the norm? Though it’s not as if she has a choice, because once students enter Alice Academy, there is no escape! Contains the complete 26-episode TV series!
