While John Carpenter’s The Thing is one of the science fiction horror classics, it’s part of the 80’s and that means it’s ripe for remake status. That’s not exactly what this is though, but rather an attempt to cash in on the name of the original while introducing a bit more back story to it all by focusing on the group that first found the alien that terrorized the people in that original film. Universal’s approaching this smartly and is likely to make a good win on it from a financial standpoint as the budget is at just $35 million and is using little in the way of known names and is also probable to do pretty well overseas because of its somewhat international cast.
