Star Wars Thursday – Musically Inclined Edition

2 min read

Welcome back to a musical edition of Star Wars Thursday, a weekly celebration of Star Wars fandom.

I’ve spent this week at a conference for enrichment teachers, and the music rarely stops. It’s been a joy to hang out with many friends who share my love of Star Wars and to show off some of my favorite geeky t-shirts. As an added bonus, I’m writing this post on Wednesday the 13th, which just so happens to be my favorite scoundrel’s birthday. (Okay, so it’s really Harrison Ford’s birthday, but Han was my first heart throb!)

We’ll start out with the classic a cappella tribute to Star Wars and John Williams. I have shown this video to several years’ worth of students, and I still laugh so hard that it makes me cry. Take a good helping of John William’s music and fold in a fabulous mélange of classic original trilogy quotes. Even if you have seen it, I highly recommend taking the time to give it another view!

My next offering is especially for friends who had a great time dancing to the original version at my conference. How can you go wrong with break dancing Rebel Alliance pilots, clips from the best movies ever, and a singing Leia in the classic buns hairdo? This is a wonderfully well done music video that will leave you humming and running to watch the movies all over again.

Finally, I offer a musical number that I just discovered this week. Star Wars Meets Metal is simply amazing. There are no flashy special effects or costuming: just a man in a storm trooper shirt, an electric guitar, and a rocking adaptation of some of the best movie music of all time. Enjoy, and I hope to see you back here next week.
