A relatively recent new light novel series is getting the anime adaptation nod this summer from Gainax with the studio working on Dantalian no Shoka for TV Tokyo. The light novel series, which has a couple of manga series that kicked off in 2010, started back in 2008 under the hand of Gakuto Mikumo as the writer and G-Yuusuke as the artist for the magazine “The Sneaker”. It’s still ongoing and has eight volumes to its name so far, so there’s plenty of material to adapt for this thirteen episode series that kicks off on July 16th. Gakuto Mikumo isn’t an unfamiliar name to some anime fans as one of his other series has been made into an anime as well, with the fourteen volume light novel series Asura Cryin’.
The series is being directed by Yutaka Uemera, someone who has been involved with Gainax before but in a minimally credited way with being an assistant unit director on the Gurren Lagann movie as well as directing the two episode Mahoromatic: Tadaima Okaeri specials. No scriptwriter is yet credited to the series that I was able to find.
Plot concept: Hugh Anthony Disward inherits an old mansion and a personal library from his grandfather. In the basement of the mansion, he meets a mysterious girl Dalian. She is a Dantalian and a gateway to “Dantalian’s bookshelf”, which stores the prohibited books of the demons.
