While no director has been formally announced, though James Mangold seems to be the man to do it at this point, that’s not stopping Hugh Jackman from talking up the production and revealing to Toronto radio station CHFI (via The Playlist) that they’re looking to start production on The Wolverine in October of this years with plans to have it out in 2012. “We shoot in October, so it will probably come out a year after that. That’s usually around the timeline.” While most superhero movies tend to be summer fare, it’s easy to see them trying to rework this one to a different release period, especially with 2012 shaping up to be pretty busy for the summer and the lack of a need by Fox in particular to shoe-horn in one more in that time period. If the movie does take the more serious, gritty approach that has been surmised from what’s been said before, it may also play better in a usually quiet autumn release period as well.
