Anime is but one area that Futurama will playfully mock in an upcoming episode for its latest season. “Reincarnation” will be a fun piece that goes and uses three different types of animation in different sections of the episode in order to tell a story. The first segment will use the classic Fleischer Studios approach, the next will be similar to what we saw in low resolution 1980’s videogames while the third will, according to the piece, us “the tropes and traps of Japanese anime, including Bender’s proud proclamation, ‘Mighty Merchandise Robot!'”
Suffice to say, it’ll have a lot to offer to very different fans, which is exactly the kind of humor that Futurama has long served up and is a reason why it’s back for another season as the little series that could.
No date is given for when this episode will run on Comedy Central, but it will be part of this years slate of episodes.
