Mark Romanek Not On ‘The Wolverine’ Director List Anymore

2 min read

When the list of eight directors was floated about recently when it came to who could take over directing The Wolverine for Fox, one name was an interesting choice if only because of the body of work he has. With only three features to his name and a whole lot of music videos, Mark Romanek wasn’t an expected choice, though he did capture some very interesting feelings with the 2010 release of Never Let Me Go, based on the story by Kazuo Ishiguro. While he has an extensive body of work when it comes to directing music videos, it’s an area where we have seen some stellar crossover movement over the years but for such a high profile film, it would have been a curious choice.

But that’s all it is, as Romanek has commented on the list and his name being on it. “That’s just one of those stories that floated around,” he said. “I was on their list, I received the script months ago. It didn’t seem like my kind of thing.”

That doesn’t mean the script was bad though, as he quickly follows up by saying, “That script was a terrific version of that kind of thing, but not something I felt really passionate about.”
