DC Comics Adds ‘Blue Beetle’ And ‘Suicide Squad’ Books

2 min read

While I will admit that I very much wanted to see the return of Ted Kord as the Blue Beetle in the new DC Universe, I can’t say I’m surprised in the least that it’s the Jaime Reyes version of the character since that’s the one getting most of the multimedia buzz and definitely has a slicker feel than Kord’s old outfit. The Return of Blue Beetle to his own series is definitely welcome as is the return of one of the books from my younger days with Suicide Squad hitting the stands again. After that book came back from the dead in Blackest Night for a resurrected issue, I was thrilled just to see the logo out there again.

How will these new editions stack up against what’s come before? I’m hopeful, particularly with Suicide Squad, since it can be a fun way to work with some of the lesser known villains and muck around with things in a bit of a dirty way.

It’s not easy being Jaime Reyes. He has to deal with high school, family and all the drama that comes with being a teenager. Also, he’s linked to a powerful scarab created by an alien race who seek to subjugate planets – or annihilate them. It’s up to one teen hero to turn this instrument of destruction into a force for good in BLUE BEETLE #1, written by Tony Bedard (GREEN LANTERN CORPS) and illustrated by Ig Guara (FLASHPOINT: GRODD OF WAR) and Ruy Jose.

Harley Quinn! Deadshot! King Shark! They’re a team of death-row super villains recruited by the government to take on missions so dangerous – they’re sheer suicide! Who will be the first to crack under the pressure? Find out in SUICIDE SQUAD #1, written by Adam Glass (FLASHPOINT: LEGION OF DOOM) with art by Marco Rudy (THE SHIELD).
