‘The Avengers’ Adds Second Major Villain?

3 min read

Spoilers ahoy, fans. You won’t want to progress far if you’re trying to keep much of this film under wraps so you can go into it with eyes full of wonder. A new piece has come up via Latino Review with some trusted source news about the fact that there may be a second big name villain appearing in The Avengers as directed by Joss Whedon when it comes out next summer. If you want to know, scroll down past the logo and we’ll get into the nitty gritty.

So, as we’ve seen with the Marvel Studios movies to date, there are connecting things in them that are sometimes there just for fun while other times it’s there to lay the greater foundation for the Marvel Universe. Thor ended up laying out a lot of material with just a short walk through Odin’s Vault where we saw a variety of artifacts that speaks of greater evils out there and a whole lot of fun. And that movie ended with the tie to the Captain America: The First Avenger movie with the Cosmic Cube bit at the end as Loki is getting his hands on it, which will segue into him being the main villain for The Avengers. But Loki isn’t exactly a hands-on kind of character and he’s going to need some muscle to go up against the good guys as they come together.

Speculation runs rampant about the Skrulls being a focal point for things, and that’s still likely figuring into things pretty well as we’re seeing consistent nods towards it. But what Latino Review’s source is indicating is the other main villain is that of Thanos, whose jeweled Infinity Gauntlet glove we saw standing proudly in Thor in the vault.

“Debuting in the Bronze Age of comic books, the character has featured in over three decades of Marvel continuity and a self-titled series. The character’s name is a derivation of Thanatos, the personification of death and mortality in Greek mythology.  One of his more prominent storylines to date—the Infinity Gauntlet series—portrayed him as a mad cosmic tyrant bent on slaying half of all sentiences existing then in Marvel’s multiverse in order to appease the Marvel Universe’s actual (and more powerful) embodied personification of Death in an attempt to win its love.”

Latino Review declines to saw how he is in the movie, but they’re putting some serious credit down in saying that he will be in it and in a significant way. They’ve been right more than wrong, so it’s a fairly safe bet to place and one that would certainly up the intergalactic cred of the movie when paired with the Skrulls and the way Loki has access to a whole lot of space out there, particularly considering how he ended up at the end of Thor.
