Production I.G. is just a couple of weeks away from serving up a manly movie about men shouting and killing other men with the theatrical release of Sengoku Basara: The Last Party. The movie arrives in Japan on June 4th as it delves into the Battle of Sekigahara with its wide ranging historical cast of badasses and massive armies. FUNimation has released the first season to DVD and Blu-ray here in the US and simulcast the second as well, so there’s definitely a good chance of seeing more of this franchise arrive here. And this movie on a big screen looks appropriately epic enough, especially with the Production I.G. name behind it.
Franchise premise: In the bloody Sengoku Period, or Warring States Period, of feudal Japan, many generals fought in an endless struggle for power, but one man proved to be too big of a threat: the dark lord, Oda Nobunaga. Sanada Yukimura and Date Masamune, two young warlords from different regions who become heated rivals, begin to form an unlikely alliance with the rest of the generals to take down the Devil King.
