This is firmly in the category of “why haven’t they done this already,” Ubi Soft Motion Pictures division is talking about bringing three of its game properties into the movie realm with Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon being bandied about. While I’d personally prefer to see them do some 3D CG films for the big screen as often times those commercials before the movies can look pretty damn good (and I’m a fan of what the Japanese have done with motion capture pieces like Appleseed, where you really need to build a very different world), these are three titles that should do pretty well with name recognition among the target audience and potentially have some decent mainstream appeal as well. The problem they’ll have is in trying to get them to be different from any number of other films of similar types when it comes to the military side and to avoid the general plague of “oh, it’s based on a videogame” that rarely helps. Which is why I do think a 3D CG version of these would be better since it would draw the eye more, ala the Beowulf film from a few years ago.
“EuropaCorp CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet said Ubisoft Motion Pictures has been working with the games’ producers and Ubisoft’s marketing team to identify the DNA of each game and come up with storylines that are consistent.” The three titles have sold a combined of sixty million games over the years with all the releases in the franchises, but gamers are notorious for having great disdain for theatrical adaptations of their favorite games since much of what makes them fun or unique is excised in the pursuit of the mainstream.
ughhhhh games like these arent meant for the 3d world. If they do make them I will only see them in 2d. Splinter cell and Assasins creed would ones i would be up for- would have to see a trailer for ghost recon- I honestly think that a title like ghost recon is better as a cable tv show
