First ‘X-Men: First Class’ Clip Debuts

2 min read

Against my better judgment, I continue to be more and more enthused about the June release of X-Men: First Class as it deals with the wonky re-imagining of the X-men’s sixties history to tie it into the movies that have come before taking place in the modern day. Fox has let loose with its first clip from the feature, which builds upon the several character trailers we’ve seen international trailers and the awful US trailers (never mind the generally subpar to say the least posters that have been unveiled) and it looks like it hits a nice balance of humor and threat in its own way.

Plot summary: X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

  1. I’m cautiously optimistic about the film; my main concern is if the story will suffer due to trying to introduce so many characters unfamiliar to the audience of the previous films.
