First Look: Booster Gold And Blue Beetle On ‘Smallville’

2 min read

The end of Smallville is almost here and for the last batch of episodes, things are picking up again. One episode due out in April involves Geoff Johns taking on the writing duties again and follows up his introduction of the Legion of Super-Heroes and the Justice Society of America in past seasons by bringing us Booster Gold and the most recent incarnation of the Blue Beetle to mainstream audiences. TV Guide has the first look at the duo together:

Booster Gold is being played by Eric Martsolf, known for his work on Days of Our Lives and he’s definitely got a grasp on the character. “The episode takes place in Booster’s very early stages where he’s at his conceited best, where he believes he can do whatever he wants. He’s gonna stay for the photo op and bask in the glory of his heroic efforts.”

This story also introduces the Jaime Reyes character, as saved by Booster Gold, and puts them at odds, unlike the classic blue and gold combo we’re used to from years past. According to Johns, he wants to keep viewers on their toes as they’ll “laugh out loud… Sometimes you laugh with Booster, sometimes you laugh at him.” Johns also makes sure the story ties into Clark’s future. “It’s rich in comic book history,” Martsolf says, “but it’s also a vehicle for Clark to start to embrace the marketability of Superman and what he could potentially be.”

  1. Not sure about Booster’s costume as it looks more like…damn, I forget, I think he was Russian but not sure-but I do love the advertising/sponsor patches ala NASCAR. And I love the old Beetle, the new one has no chance of ever pushing Ted Kord out of my heart.
