Diane Lane Talks About Being A Mom to ‘Superman’

2 min read

“It’s going to be a wild ride,” she says about taking part in Zack Snyder’s Superman movie. Being a mom is difficult enough in normal circumstances, but having Superman as your son? That adds a whole new level of stress, as well as a lot of pride that you have to deal with. For the feature, Snyder has cast Diane Lane to take on the role of Martha Kent, a character that has been reworked numerous times over the decades across various media incarnations, including a regular role on TV’s Smallville for several seasons before getting a makeover in the ninth season to something a bit more dangerous.

For Snyder, she’ll be playing mother to Henry Cavill as Superman and if the rumors pan out, it’ll be Kevin Costner taking on the role of Pa Kent. According to USA Weekend, Diane Lane got herself into the right mindset for things by sitting down with Snyders’s previous comic book adaptation with Watchmen, in order “to remind myself of what an audacious, brilliant man Zack Snyder is.” She also indicated her love for other works of his, saying, “I love 300 and I’m very flattered to play Martha Kent and live up to his vision. It’s pretty cool.”

Lane certainly seems to have the right attitude about the role when asked her feelings about playing Martha Kent. “I’ve always wanted to raise a good man,” she quips. “I thought that was the biggest challenge a woman could have, and so I get the embarrassment of riches.”
