Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Blu-rays Detailed

4 min read

While a lot of people picked up the individual theatrical editions of these films during various Black Friday sales last year, either for 8 bucks each or the whole shebang for that price, a lot of people are waiting on the extended editions to come on Blu-ray, which have been promised for 2011. Amazon is being a bit cagey with the release as they don’t have a firm date yet, simply saying that it’s schedule for 2011 or 2012, but the details are starting to fill out and the supposed box art for the full set has been listed as well. It’s going to retail for $120, already at their standard 30% discount, and will have all the material from the DVD sets included. The extras largely appear to be standard definition material and we’re hearing that the features are going to be spread across two discs so as to not mess with the overall quality of the features with the encoding.

The Quest Is Over: All three extended versions in dazzling 1080p and DTS HD-MA 5.1 Audio. Deluxe set includes over 26 Hours of spellbinding behind-the- moviemaking material, including the Rare Costa Botes documentaries.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition: With the help of a courageous fellowship of friends and allies, Frodo embarks on a perilous mission to destroy the legendary One Ring.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Extended Edition: In the middle chapter of this historic movie trilogy, the Fellowship is broken but its quest to destroy the One Ring continues.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Extended Edition: The final battle for Middle-earth begins. Frodo and Sam, led by Gollum, continue their dangerous mission toward the fires of Mount Doom in order to destroy the One Ring.
