‘G.I. Joe ‘2 Theatrical Release Set

1 min read

With Jon Chu, coming off of the Justin Bieber movie, now slated to handle the directing chores for the sequel to G.I. Joe, Paramount has announced that the second film will land on August 10th, 2012, giving it a fairly rushed production overall, especially as negotiations for him coming on board are still ongoing according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 2009 movie, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, was headed by Stephen Sommers who declined to return for this one. It was made for a whopping $175 million and you had a hard time telling where the budget went considering how the film looked at times (yes, we’re looking at you, power suits). The movie did bring in just over $300 million worldwide though and Paramount believes they can get a more profit friendly feature the second time around and there’s likely to be extensive recasting as well with few if any of them returning, which for the most part won’t upset many of those who would be interested in a sequel to begin with.
