4th Mad Max Movie Production Raring To Go

2 min read

The Daily Telegraph has some new information out about what’s going on with the fourth installment of the Mad Max series, sans the Max that made it what it was as Mel Gibson isn’t set to reprise the role. Entitled “Fury Road,” director George Miller has everything in place but significant delays occurred with the planned January production start date as the weather ended up flooding Broken Hill in Australia, so much so that if they were there, the entire setup would have been washed away. Even worse, however, is that the location has now turned because of the flood and what was once a very barren and drought-ridden location is starting to bloom.

Other production issues are causing a ripple effect as well, though they believe everything will fall into place. Taking on the role of Max is none other than Tom Hardy, who just found himself following up Inception with the third Dark Knight film as Bane for Christopher Nolan. That has space for him to take a trip to Australia to film this role however, so it doesn’t negatively impact things, but it adds more pressure.  Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer are also attached to the project.

“All the contracts are signed. It’s a locked-in film. It has been for 18 months now,” Miller said.

Warner Bros. is working with the delays and has agreed to a twelve month delay so the director can get the Happy Feet 2 movie moving further along as well. With Fury Road, he states that, “We will restart pre-production later this year and begin early next year — weather permitting.”

“The week we were to start [Fury Road], it rained the heaviest it had in 10 years. I’ll never forget the first day — we were holed up in a big sort of shed watching the rain. We couldn’t shoot. If you want the rain to come, just send a film crew there.”
