While news about Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace being put into 3D form has been known for awhile, Lucasfilm has come out with an actual date for it now and it’s not what most would have expected. While every prior Star Wars film has had an end of May release date, the 3D version of The Phantom Menace will bow on February 12th, 2012. This keeps it out of a very busy summer schedule next year and allows for something big to pop into the month of February to try and drive up box office revenues a bit, especially since 3D can be a fair bit more in price in general. The other two prequel features are being worked on as well for 3D but there are no announced dates yet for when they’d show up in theaters.
Would you go and see The Phantom Menace and other Star Wars films converted from 2D to 3D?
