With the twenty-five episode series that wrapped up this past spring, most folks expected to never see Gundam Build Fighters again. While it was left more than open enough and just barely tapped what it could do, it did end things well enough that you had a sense of closure for enough of it. But now word has come via the official Japanese site that they’ve announced that a new series is in the works. It’s a pretty vague statement in and of itself but with the property likely helping to reinvigorate some older properties through its use of the Gunpla kits and sales to fans, it seemed like an easy marketing series that actually had a pretty good story once you got into it.

Plot concept: The story is set in the near future when GunPla Battles, competitions that pit Gundam plastic models against each other, have become popular worldwide in the “Second GunPla Boom.” Sei Iori, a first-year middle-school student and the only son of a model shop owner, is talented at building GunPla, but inexperienced in the GunPla Battles. He encounters a mysterious boy named Reiji, who happens to be an accomplished Gundam Fighter. Together, they strive for the GunPla Battle world championships.
