‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Pushed Back Seven Months

2 min read

One way to keep up interest and enthusiasm in one of the few film properties that you’re working with is to move it back, right?

Warner Bros. has revealed that the Wonder Woman sequel, titled Wonder Woman 1984, is being moved from a November 1st, 2019 release date to a June 5th, 2020 release date. The move is one that is largely going to work in the film’s favor as the original was released on June 2nd, 2017 and it did $821 million worldwide, so trying to recreate that experience is in the mix.

Warner Bros. complicated the original release date recently as they scheduled the Joker film with Joaquin Phoenix for October 4th, 2019 and that would have made for a difficult marketing session in trying to push two distinct DC Films projects within the space of a month of each other.

Warner’s Jeff Goldstein said, “We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did. This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.”

The current June 2020 schedule looks like this so far:

  1. Wonder Woman 1984 (WB) – 6/5
  2. Red Notice (Uni.) – 6/12
  3. Untitled Pixar Animation (June 2020) (BV) – 6/19
  4. In the Heights (WB) – 6/26
  5. Top Gun (2020) (Par.) – 6/26
  6. Untitled Fox/Marvel Film II (2020) (Fox) – 6/26
