Netflix Cancels ‘Iron Fist’

2 min read

With a very poorly reviewed first season that Netflix said had the highest viewership at the time for a Marvel series of the four core properties, Iron Fist came back last month with a ten-episode run that I thought tightened things up a lot, cleaned up what it needed to, and left fans like myself at the end of it eagerly anticipating a third season.

So, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Netflix has now canceled the series on the streaming service.

“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix,” came the statement from both companies. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

With the Defenders social media having been removed recently this is potentially a sign of things getting more competitive between the two companies as Disney gets ready to launch its service next year. Marvel’s portion of the statement doe give indication that Iron Fist could be revived at their own service and that would certainly work as the show ended with a significant enough change that they can almost do a soft reboot in a way, retitled and taking it in the direction intended.
