Star Wars ResistanceThe reveal back in April about a new Star Wars series set before The Force Awakens with Star Wars: Resistance hasn’t had us getting a lot of new information since then other than that Polygon Pictures was behind the animation for it. Now, Disney has dropped the first trailer for the series with the confirmation of an October 7th, 2018 debut for it. It’s definitely something that will be a challenge for some fans to get into, much as Rebels was for Clone Wars fans who in turn had people upset that the traditional animation specials for Clone Wars wasn’t used for the ongoing series.
The project will be using some of the familiar cast from the films with Oscar Isaac reprising his role as Poe Dameron and Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma among others to be revealed. It’ll also obviously be bringing in new characters while BB-8 will be feature fairly regularly one might imagine.
The project is one that will definitely be intriguing to see as Dave Filoni is working on this after working on both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.
Filoni was quoted as previously saying, “The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”
The announced cast beyond the film actors include Christopher Sean (Days of Our Lives), Suzie McGrath (East Enders), Scott Lawrence (Legion), Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Bobby Moynihan (DuckTales), Jim Rash (Community) and Rachel Butera (Tammy’s Tiny Tea Time).
Plot Concept: The series follows Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.
