What They Say
Can eight teenagers find their way home from 5,000 light-years away?

It’s the year 2063, and interstellar space travel has become the norm. Eight students from Caird High School and one child set out on a routine planet camp excursion. While there, the students are mysteriously transported 5,000 light-years away to the middle of nowhere! Will they ever make it back home?!

After their nightmare on Shummoor, the group arrives at the third planet on their journey, Arispade. The planet has plenty of food, water and sunshine, making it just like a tropical paradise and the perfect place to relax. Even the lone wolf of the group, Ulgar, starts to open up! That is, until he suddenly pulls out a gun and threatens to kill Luca! Could Ulgar be the traitor the group has been looking for?!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
This volume introduces the reader to the parents of the lost children of the Astra spaceship. They are as varied a group as the students themselves; ranging from politicians to celebrities to the seemingly average housewife. Given the amount of effort made to kill the students of Group B-5 of Caird High School, there is no way one parent pulled this off on their own. It is more likely multiple parents teamed up to kill off their kids. But why?

While resting, and replenishing their supplies on a tropical paradise planet, relationships between the students rush to a breaking point that could shatter the tenuous peace on the Astra. Ulgar has been hiding the gun he found since they first found themselves lost in space. Now he has discovered a reason to use it when Luca reveals that he is the son of a politician that might have had Ulgar’s brother killed. In a single moment, the truth behind Ulgar’s bad attitude and Luca’s deep dark personal secret comes flooding to the surface just before their planet experiences a massive tsunami!

Luca’s life is literally in Ulgar’s hands, and their short-lived friendship may not be enough to survive the deeds of their family. But with their existence in the balance, Charce is accused of being the classes killer! It will be Charce’s word against the word of Aries, and her photographic memory!

In Summary:
This volume continues with the survive in space ala Lost in Space type story. But beyond the interesting worlds full of bizarre animals, the characters are forced to face their difficult pasts. It is a lot for teenagers to have gone through for their ages, and some of it is likely part of the reason why they ended up on this fateful school trip. From a story standpoint, the character development for three of the character’s cuts to the bone of their existences and drew me in as an invested reader. I am looking forward to seeing these characters struggle for survival in deep space.
