Chi’s Sweet Adventure Episode #31 Anime Review

“Yohei runs away”

What They Say:
Chi is a sweet playful kitten, always full of energy. She gets milk from Yohei, and is relaxing at home, nice and full. As she searches around the house for something exciting, she comes across Yohei walking with a handful of rubber balls. The balls bounce everywhere as he drops them, and Yohei and Chi can’t get more excited. The day ends with Chi and the family making a great memory together.

With a recap episode behind us, which are always problematic even when framed well, the series gets back on track with some family material. What we get here is Yohei being the kid that he is that’s frustrated and angry over his father breaking a promise due to work related issues. That has him trying to figure out how he can get out of the house on his own and leave the family, which is your typical kid move. It’s standard stuff but it’s fun watching him get frustrated in trying to find a job or figure anything else out, all while Chi and the family deal with the stress of the situation back at home. It takes on an even more fun level when we get Yohei connecting with Come-Come and living a similar life briefly, even to the point of getting fish handouts.

In Summary:
Yohei’s journey is a fun enough one with those that he meets along the way and what he kind of learns. What I really liked was the simple realities that do happen, such as Chi being oblivious and Mom basically following behind Yohei the whole way to make sure he’s actually safe and okay – and thanking those that help him. Similarly, Dad goes through his own little journey here that may be filled with work but he does get the reconnect with Yohei by himself and then with everyone else to find a way to save the moment. I do think that they needed to not give in on this and have the reality of learning how to handle broken promises but they try to find a decent balance here.
