‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ Nabs Second Week Box Office Win

2 min read

Thi weekend saw a trio of new films arrive on the big screen but it was last week’s top film that held the position again this week with Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The film did a $35 million take to bring it to $124 million after last weekend and weekday totals. It’s doing pretty strong with just a 42% drop when most films drop 50% or more in their second weekends. It’s also doing really well overseas with another $76 million – and with China to open at the end of the month. It’s at $329 million worldwide so far.

Of the new films, Christopher Robin did the best with a $25 million take while The Spy who Dumped Me underperformed a bit with a $12 million take. That project has a $40 million budget and should do a bit better overseas and is likely a break-even project theatrically. And last but not least, The Darkest Minds landed in eighth place with a $5.8 million debut with minimal advertising associated with it – I only really heard about it and saw the first trailer three weeks ago. Expect this one to disappear fast.

Next weekend sees Warner Bros. bringing out The Meg while Sony has Slender Man. Focus Features is going in a different direction with BlacKkKlansman.

The August draught is here.
