‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ Scales New Heights With Box Office Win

2 min read

July is coming to a close and the last box office weekend of it has what’s pretty much the last big action film of the summer season with Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The sixth film in the franchise was a boost overall as it was teh biggest opening for the franchise and the second largest opening for Tom Cruise. Pulling in $61 million, the film is the biggest opener that Paramount has had since 2014 with TMNT. It should do pretty well over the next few weeks without any major competition coming, especially on the action front. Combine this with what should be a pretty strong international staggered roll out with Cruise and others visiting a lot of the regions, it did $92 million in 36 markets with a lot more ahead. It did big in South Korea alone with that making up $24.6 million of it there.

Past that, the weekend is mostly the holdovers form last weekend with Mamma Mia! bringing in another $15 million after its $34 million opening but it also did really well during the weekend as it’s now at $70 million.

This weekend did see another new film that I don’t think there were high expectations for with Teen Titans Go! To The Movies as it landed in fifth with a $10.5 million take, underperforming by a few million from expectations. That said, the budget of the film is just $10 million itself and some weekday showings and the expect overall push through various markets will make it the kind of small but solid run that you wish we had more of.

Next weekend sees the debut of a lot of films including Christopher RobinThe Spy Who Dumped Me and The Darkes Mind.
