Working Buddies was a real surprise during the winter season in how it managed to be fun in its simplicity as a kind of educational anime-ish show. There’s no high concept here but it manages to have fun as it educates kids about the working life, which is hugely important. This episode does a bit of a re-introduction of the concept with Tapio and Kuehiko who continue to end up working together while going to college. It recaps some of what they’ve done before for jobs and some of the understanding of each other as well that helps them to get along, if not become friends. Presenting all of this as the two putting together a sizzle reel project of sorts just takes it in an even more enjoyable direction, particularly with the Wooser moment.

In Summary:
Bringing a pretty fun approach to delivering recap for the first half without it being overdone, Working Buddies puts viewers square into the right place for understanding the two leading characters, how they operate, and the premise of the show. It’s got just the right amount of humor and weirdness to deliver and it simply makes me smile a whole lot in seeing how Tapio and Kuehiko continue to work together through a range of odd jobs. It may be on very few people’s radar but this was one of my more anticipated summer shows.
