With twenty-two volumes of manga under its belt, we learned in December 2017 that the Kegan Ashura series is scheduled for an anime adaptation that’s coming in 2019. Netflix has stepped into the production as they’ve revealed at Anime Expo that they’ll be handling the series and have launched their own page for it. Seiji Kishi is on board to direct it based on the series composition by Makoto Uezu. Kazuaki Morita is handling the character designs while Larx Entertainment is handling the animation production.

The original work comes from writer Yabako Sandrovich with artwork by Daromeon which began in Ura Sunday magazine back in 2012 and has been pretty popular there, including previously winning a fan vote contest to get an anime adaptation.

Plot Concept: Since the Edo periods of Japan, gladiator arenas exist in certain areas. In these arenas, wealthy business owners and merchants hire gladiators to fight in unarmed combat where winner takes all. Toki Taouma, nicknamed “Ashura”, joins these arenas and devastates his opponents. His spectacular ability to crush his enemies catches the attention of the big business owners, including the Nogi Group chairman, Nogi Hideki.
