At the Sunrise panel at Anime Expo today, President and CEO Yasuo Miyakawa revealed that they’re partnering with Legendary Pictures for a live-action Gudnam film. With Legendary having been involved in the two Pacific Rim films and Gundam making a popular appearance in Ready Player One earlier this year, it makes a lot of sense for this particular grouping to work together to try and make it a reality.
Obviously, there are no details at the moment regarding what they’re going to do and how it’ll be approached or, if like numerous other planned live-action adaptations of anime films whether it’ll get made. There’s a lot of strong source material to work with that can be updated nicely in live-action so we’re hopeful, but cautious.
Original Concept: In the year Universial Century 0079, humanity lives in space colonies called Sides. Side 3, the Principality of Zeon, has declared war on the Earth Federation. After the intial fighting, an 8-month stalemate occured. However that stalemate breaks when Amuro Ray stumbles into the Gundam, the Earth Federation’s secret weapon. Now Amuro and the crew of White Base must stand up to Zeon in order to end the war.
