The theatrical anime feature adapted the sixth volume of the light novel series. That novel came out from Yen Press back on January 24th, 2017 for a  release date. The premise for it is, “One fateful day, the One True God Tet collapsed from hunger in the back alleys of Elche, only to be saved by Izuna. Tet recounts a story from 6000 years ago, about the Great War” that divided the heavens and tore the earth asunder. About the man who challenged the world and the girl who stayed by his side.”

The anime adaptation comes from original creator Yuu Kamiya and is directed by Atsuko Ishizuka (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, NANA) with story composition by Jukki Hanada (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, Beyond the Boundary), art direction by Eiji Iwase (Campione!, Divergence Eve) and animation production by Madhouse Studios (Highschool of the Dead, BTOOOM!).

The Japanese cast includes Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Riku, Ai Kayano as Shuvi, Yōko Hikasa as Corone Dora, Yukari Tamura as Jibril, Yuka Iguchi as Nonna Zell, Mamiko Noto as Shinku Nilvalen, Miyuki Sawashiro as Izuna Hatsuse and Rie Kugimiya as Teto.

Plot Concept: Six thousand years before Sora and Shiro were even a blink in the history of Disboard. War consumed the land, tearing apart the heavens, destroying stars, and even threatening to wipe out the human race. Amid the chaos and destruction, a young man named Riku leads humanity toward the tomorrow his heart believed in. One day, in the ruins of an Elf city, he meets Shuvi, a female exiled “ex-machina” android who asks him to teach her what it means to have a human heart.
