The Toonami block on Cartoon Network often feels pretty stodgy and familiar when it needs to be reinventing itself every few months and it’ll get to do that for the summer as it’s adding Pop Team Epic to the mix. The programming block has revealed that the series will debut at midnight on July 1st, 2018 in dubbed form and will be following shows that get underway at 10:30 pm with the popular Dragon Ball Super followed by My Hero Academia and FLCL: Progressive for the couple of episodes left. Interestingly, the schedule change finally boots Dragon Ball Z Kai after it finishes up its run, though that may just be until FLCL: Progressive finishes up its six-episode run. Dragon Ball Z Kai is still pulling in upwards of 800,000 viewers regularly and it’s hard to imagine them dropping that even if the run is finished.

The show was animated by Kamikaze Douga with King Records producing it. The original work is a webmanga that began in 2014 as a four-panel project. The first series ended in late 2015 and a second kicked off in early 2016.

Plot Concept: The story centers around two girls called Popuko and Pipimi and uses lots of news topics in a surreal way.
