A second season is coming for the Tokyo Ghoul:re anime adaptation just as we’re learning that the manga is wrapping up in a couple of chapters. With the current season of the series getting ready to finish its streaming, Young Jump magazine is revealing that a second season will be coming out this fall according to ANN. No details were provided in the magazine and it’s expected that the current cast and staff will be returning for the new season.
This season was directed by Odahiro Watanabe with Chuji Mikasano handling the scripts and composition. The character designs this season were done by Atsuko Nakajima. Studio Pierrot and Pierrot Plus handled the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Natsuki Hanae as Ken Kaneki/Haise Sasaki, Kaito Ishikawa as Kuki Urie, Yuuma Uchida as Ginshi Shirazu, Natsumi Fujiwara as Tooru Mitsuki, and Ayane Sakura as Saiko Yonebayashi, Yu Kobayashi as Kanae von Rosewald, and Mamoru Miyano as Shu Tsukiyama.
The original manga series from Sui Ishida had an adaptation back in 2014 before shifting gears to this incarnation that moved things forward.
Plot Concept: Two years have passed since the CCG’s raid on Anteiku. Although the atmosphere in Tokyo has changed drastically due to the increased influence of the CCG, ghouls continue to pose a problem as they have begun taking caution, especially the terrorist organization Aogiri Tree, who acknowledge the CCG’s growing threat to their existence.
The creation of a special team, known as the Quinx Squad, may provide the CCG with the push they need to exterminate Tokyo’s unwanted residents. As humans who have undergone surgery in order to make use of the special abilities of ghouls, they participate in operations to eradicate the dangerous creatures. The leader of this group, Haise Sasaki, is a half-ghoul, half-human who has been trained by famed special class investigator, Kishou Arima. However, there’s more to this young man than meets the eye, as unknown memories claw at his mind, slowly reminding him of the person he used to be.
