What They Say:
The year is 1555, the middle of the Warring States period, and one young man holds on to a very big dream. That young man, known as an empty-headed fool, is none other than Oda Nobunaga. Enchanted by his dream, a certain young girl who admires Nobunaga swears that she will become his ninja one day. Nobunaga has one goal: to unify Japan by military might! Decorated by a colorful cast of characters, including the airheaded Kichou, the errand boy Hideyoshi, the tsundere Nene, the straight man Mitsuhide, and the half-dead Hanbei, this heavy-hitting wartime gag anime is about to begin!!

With this episode, the start of a new era, we get Nobunaga doing the politics thing with a visit to the Shogun, Yoshiaki, off in Kyoto. Yoshiaki’s an odd one to be sure and that creates some conflict with Nobunaga, which is problematic in keeping the country running. The back and forth between the two is comical and Yoshiaki gets in a few jabs in creative ways. While that plays out we get some material back in Oumi looking at events going on there as plans are starting to be formed but it’s mostly just a decent reconnect with a few of them, such as Hideyoshi and a brief but enjoyable moment with Chidori as she’s feeling upbeat again and back to normal.

In Summary:
The show has a somewhat quieter episode here since we’re not in the middle of battle or planning stages for something immediate and that lets the characters breathe a bit more. The amusement with the Shogun definitely works since they both have to work together and the handlers are doing their best with that. The little nods back at the main camp and with Nobunaga’s eventual return works well too as it’s light and somewhat resets our characters to move forward again in a good way. A solid transitional episode.
