The folks at Deadline have unearthed some information on the two known Joker film projects that have been talked about the last year or two. With Jared Leto having appeared in the Suicide Squad film to mixed reactions, to say the least, and mixed on his own part as well, Warner Bros. is still in early development of a standalone film for the character. Apparently, Leto is on board as an executive producer for it which will give him more say in how things go. That said, there’s no writer or director attached yet but that’s part of the process with him and Warner Bros. looking to find the right creative to pull it together – and a commitment on his part.
The other film we’d heard about for a bit was the untitled Joker origin film that had Todd Phillips set to direct. Phillips is still attached to it and the film will be under a different film banner as we had seen talked about before so that it wouldn’t be connected to the shared DC universe slate of films. Joaquin Phoenix is attached to this film.
