Tokyo Ghoul re Japanese Volume 1 Cover

The process of doing a simuldub on the same day as release isn’t easy and people should be pretty impressed that Funimation managed it for four episodes of the current Tokyo Ghoul:re series before going to the one-week delay. That’s coming to an end now with the ninth episode as they’ve having to shift to a more traditional two-week delay, which means that dub will show up on June 12th. This isn’t unexpected as the original announcement said that the first few episodes would be day and date and they went a good bit beyond that.

Odahiro Watanabe is stepping in to direct the series as he takes over from Shuhei Morita. Chuji Mikasano is returning from the previous series to work on the scripts and composition but Kazuhiro Miwa is being replaced as the character designer by Atsuko Nakajima. Studio Pierrot and Pierrot Plus are handling the animation.

The previously announced cast includes Natsuki Hanae as Ken Kaneki/Haise Sasaki, Kaito Ishikawa as Kuki Urie, Yuuma Uchida as Ginshi Shirazu, Natsumi Fujiwara as Tooru Mitsuki, and Ayane Sakura as Saiko Yonebayashi, Yu Kobayashi as Kanae von Rosewald, and Mamoru Miyano as Shu Tsukiyama.

The original manga series from Sui Ishida had an adaptation back in 2014 before shifting gears to this incarnation that moved things forward.

Plot Concept: Two years have passed since the CCG’s raid on Anteiku. Although the atmosphere in Tokyo has changed drastically due to the increased influence of the CCG, ghouls continue to pose a problem as they have begun taking caution, especially the terrorist organization Aogiri Tree, who acknowledge the CCG’s growing threat to their existence.

The creation of a special team, known as the Quinx Squad, may provide the CCG with the push they need to exterminate Tokyo’s unwanted residents. As humans who have undergone surgery in order to make use of the special abilities of ghouls, they participate in operations to eradicate the dangerous creatures. The leader of this group, Haise Sasaki, is a half-ghoul, half-human who has been trained by famed special class investigator, Kishou Arima. However, there’s more to this young man than meets the eye, as unknown memories claw at his mind, slowly reminding him of the person he used to be.
