Originally serialized in Comic Kairakuten BEAST from the March 2018 installment, Wife Lies is a twenty page story from creator Tomohiro Kai, who has five other works on the service. It’s my first experience with Kai’s work and I’m definitely curious to check out more of what they have because the designs are just great. The storytelling side is a bit weak in terms of setup here as there’s a kind of lack of clarity that we get with the male characters, which happens in a lot of hentai, but that makes it problematic when dealing with this kind of story. You need it to be clear what’s actually going on even if you’ve got the gist of it pretty easily.
With non-cheating wife stories being a real minority when it comes to hentai, we get a good little twist on that here. We’re introduced to Keiichi and Youko, a happily married couple where Youko is still fairly restrained in their sex life. She’s unable to really let go because she doesn’t want to be seen a certain way. So that has Keiichi bringing in their friend Uchida from work to run a little hypnotism to things to help with a fantasy of her being with another man, something that turns him on greatly but doesn’t want to have happen. He wants Uchida to hypnotize her into thinking Keiichi is someone else so they get the best of both worlds. Everyone is on board with what’s going on but the reality is that Uchida can’t actually do that and Youko realizes that. So, being the good wife that she is, she essentially roleplays the whole thing.
With Youko playing at meeting up with this mysterious stranger that is her husband, it’s a lot of fun because she does cut loose from how she normally is while Keiichi is just shocked at how different she is. The two get into it pretty hot and heavy and Kai delivers some great artwork for all the action here as Youko has a fantastic character design and we get a really good range of positions and acts that has the right kind of intensity to it that it needs for this situation. Youko’s all in and uninhibited for the most part which results in her being even more enthusiastic than she was before as she’s able to be a lot more verbal and outgoing. It also leads to some really good moments between the couple when all is said and done as we get them just laying together and talking in a way that feels more honest than you’d expect.
In Summary
Wife Lies is a pretty fun chapter of married material, something that we don’t get in general and that isn’t involved in something really sordid and problematic. While the actual idea may not be something that a lot of people would be interested in, and Kai’s execution of it in the prologue isn’t as strong as it should be, the end result is a lot of fun in terms of story. When it comes to the action, however, Kai nails it across the board with great designs, some very fun layouts for the bigger scenes, and a good sense of personality and bits of humor mixed in as well when it comes to Youko. Definitely a very fun chapter.
