Getting underway at the start of this month, Funimation is going big as part of the 20th anniversary of Cowboy Bebop this year and they’ve got three super collector’s edition projects in the works. These projects are going to be very limited with three editions that will be produced at 1,000 units only – but only if they get the actual orders for it. If they can’t get 1,000 orders, the minimum needed to go into production for the limited aspects of what’s involved, the sets won’t get made. With it being about two weeks since this got started, we took a peek to see how it’s updating and what may actually get produced. The results so far are:
- 150/1000 – THE BEBOP CREW
- 84/1000 – THE BOOGIE WOOGIE BOX
- 465/1000 – THE BOUNTY HUNTER’S STEEL
Odds are the $250 Bounty Hunter’s Steel set will get made but even that feels a little dicey at this stage but it’s worth remembering projects like this see a burst toward the end. The other two sets… those look like they’re definitely not going to happen. I don’t follow their social media too closely to see how often they talk up these sets but I can’t recall seeing it on my Twitter or Facebook feeds since they were first announced. And projects like this need a big push.
The three projects are all ones with some really neat things to it that go big in a way that you only see with some Hollywood releases for the most part with statues, hardcover books, and more. Check out the details below and let’s see if this can be funded in the next thirty days!

Plot Concept: The Bebop crew is just trying to make a buck. This motley lot of intergalactic loners teams up to track down fugitives and turn them in for cold hard cash. Spike is a hero whose cool facade hides a dark and deadly past. The pilot Jet is a bruiser of a brute who can’t wait to collect the next bounty. Faye Valentine is a femme fatale prone to breaking hearts and separating fools from their money. Along for the ride are the brilliant-but-weird hacker Ed and a super-genius Welsh Corgi named Ein. On their own, any one of them would be likely to get lost in the sprawl of space, but together, they’re the most entertaining gang of bounty hunters in the year 2071.
