‘Westworld’ Announces Third Season Renewal

The second season of Westworld got underway just under two weeks ago and things are going well for it as HBO has confirmed that they’ve renewed it for a second season. The first season showed up in the fall of 2016 and was a somewhat troubled production that had shut down at one point for awhile. With a complicated plot and process, a sixteen month gap between seasons would normally be problematic but the show’s fans (myself included) know it’s worth the wait.

“It’s been an extraordinary pleasure to work with the exceptionally talented Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as their gifted cast and crew,” said Casey Bloys, President HBO Programming. “From the inspired storytelling to the incredible visuals, we are so excited to see where the next chapter will take us.”

Nothing was said about what to expect in a return timeframe but the show has been going strong with 2.1 million viewers for the season premiere, which is up 5% from the first season, hopefully it won’t be as long until the third season lands.

The original feature was released in 1973 based on the story by Michael Crichton, who also directed it, which had as its stars Yul Brynner and James Brolin. With it being a Warner Bros. property at this point after being with MGM originally, that makes it easier for HBO to work with.

First Season Concept: The one-hour drama series WESTWORLD (ten episodes) is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin. Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.
