With a solid marketing campaign and some amount of curiosity out there for those like me that adore the old video game, Rampage took the top spot with a $34.5 million take thanks to Dwayne Johnson’s involvement in the project. The film did pretty well overall though not a huge amount, but enough to secure a win and to build on. It’ll likely hit closer to $80 million domestic when all is said and done since there’s a lot of competition coming up soon. The film did $114 million overseas but with a $120 million budget things are looking a little dicey in the long term.

What is doing really well is A Quiet Place as it’s a hair under $100 million in ten days time with a $32 million take for the weekend on top of the $50 million last week and some good numbers during the week. It also did another $22 million overseas and is ahead of a lot of other similar material in the last couple of years so its $51 million overseas total is pretty solid.

The third place position was another newcomer with Truth or Dare drawing in $19 million as there’s still some appeal in the low cost horror genre as Blumhouse made this for $3.5 million. Profit, profit, profit before even opening much in the way of the overseas side yet.

April underwent a lot of adjustments due to Avengers: Infinity War moving up to the 27th so things do feel a touch off. Next week on the 20th there are three movies going wide with I Feel Pretty and Super Troopers 2 filling the comedy zone while Traffik hits as a thriller from Lionsgate.
