‘Tensai Bakabon’ Manga Getting New TV Anime Series

With an anime adaptation almost two decades ago and a decade after the death of the creator, the Tensai Bakabon property is getting a new anime adaptation. Scheduled for the summer 2018 seaosn in July, it has Toru Hosokawa directing it and working on the scripts with Takashi Yamamoto as the assistant director. Takaaki Wada is handling the character designs this time and Pierrot+ is managing the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Arata Furuta as Bakabon’s father
  • Miyu Irino as Bakabon
  • Noriko Hidaka as Bakabon’s mother
  • Ai Nonaka as Hajime, Bakabon’s younger brother
  • Akira Ishida as Rerere no Ojisan
  • Toshiyuki Morikawa as Honkan, the local police officer
  • Takahiro Sakurai as Unagi-Inu

The original manga by Fuji Akatsuka began in 1967 and had four TV series adaptations over the next thirt years along with a feature film in 2015.

Plot Concept:  Tensai Bakabon is the tale of a child prodigy and his “philosophical” father. Bakabon‘s father has his own philosophy and he leaves no stone unturned in his quest for answers. Despite his ability to trouble Trouble, for some reason, Papa Bakabon is regarded as “The Great Philosopher,” and is sought after for advice, which of course ends up in disastrous results. Tensai Bakabon joins his father in his philosophical quests which drives the people in their town crazy.
