With an anime adaptation done way back in 2000 that was released domestically by Right Stuf, this franchise is getting another shot at things with the Boogiepop and Others light novel from Kouhei Kadono and Kouji Ogata getting an anime adaptation. Coming as part of the 20th-anniversary release of the original novel, it’s being animated by Madhouse with it to debut sometime this year.
Shingo Natsume is directing it based on the series composition by Tomohiro Suzuki. Hidehiko Sawada is handling the character designs for it.
The Japanese cast includes Aoi Yuki as Toka Miyashita/Boogiepop and Saori Onishi as Nagi Kirima.
Seven Seas Entertainment has released the novel in English in print and digital.
Plot Concept: There is an urban legend that children tell one another about a shinigami that can release people from the pain they may be suffering. This “Angel of Death” has a name: Boogiepop. And the legends are true. Boogiepop is real. When a rash of disappearances involving female students breaks out at Shinyo Academy, the police and faculty assume they just have a bunch of runaways on their hands. But Nagi Kirima knows better. Something mysterious and foul is afoot. Is it Boogiepop, or something more sinister…?
