The noitaminA block announced back in December the fall 2017 plans for an adaptation of the Inuyashiki manga from Hiroya Oku of Gantz fame that will premiere on October 12th, 2017. The series will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in Japan and through Anime Strike overseas. Ahead of that we’ve gotten some new information on the project with the reveal that Qaijiff will be singing the ending theme song for it with “Ai wo Ishiete Kureta Kimi e.” Additionally, we got two more characters cast with:

  • Sumire Uesaka as Mari Inuyashiki
  • Sumire Moroboshi as Shion Watanabe

The previously announced Japanese cast includes Fumiyo Kohinata as Ichirō Inuyashiki and Nijirō Murakami as Hiro Shishigami.

The property is getting both a live-action film and an anime TV series. The project previously set Keiichi Satou as the chief director with Shuhei Yabuta serving as the hands-on director at MAPPA. Hiroshi Seko is on board for the series composition and Naoyuki Onda is going to handle the character design.

Kodansha Comics is releasing the manga in print and digital form with Crunchyroll also doing some simulpub work on it. There are currently seven volumes published as of this fall in Japan with Oku indicating that he has it set for a ten-volume run total.

Plot Concept: Ichiro Inuyashiki is down on his luck. While only 58 years old, his geriatric looks often have him written off as a pathetic old man by the world around him and he’s constantly ignored and disrespected by his family despite all that he’s done to support them. On top of everything else, his doctor has revealed that he has cancer and it appears that he has little time left in this world. But just when it seems things couldn’t get any worse, a blinding light in the night sky strikes the earth where Ichiro stands. He later wakes up to find himself unscathed, but he soon starts to notice that there’s something…different about himself.
