These two books are pretty straightforward, so there isn’t much to say about them. There isn’t any text beyond the introduction, and pages are full of various aquatic life and space objects. The process visually outlined is clear, going from the most rudimentary shapes and filling them in with greater and greater detail. While it would have been nice to have some sort of commentary to help guide along with the images, the drawings work well enough to show the process.
I would have eaten these books up as a kid, back when I drew all the time and hadn’t given myself wholly over to Lady Writing, and I can imagine kids would have a great time with this, sitting on their stomachs on the living room floor, drawing, following the guide images. While it won’t teach them the fundamentals of drawing, they’ll walk away able to draw a pretty nice astronaut or sea otter.
In Summary
The Draw 50 guides offer up nice, simple visual instructions for drawing various animals, plants, and objects. While they won’t necessarily teach you the fundamentals of drawing, they do provide a solid guide for drawing these particular items. I bet kids will greatly enjoy these. Dr. J gives them both a…
