Patty Jenkins Close To Finalizing ‘Wonder Woman’ Sequel

2 min read

Wonder Woman PosterThe success of Wonder Woman is still making waves but things are shaping up a bit as the ripple effect from it is flowing outward. With Warner Bros. recently setting a December 13th, 2009 release date for the sequel, other pieces are still being nailed down. One of the more surprising parts we learned awhile ago was that director Patty Jenkins wasn’t locked in for a potential sequel because they weren’t planning on it being a success. The deal that’s in the works is definitely sounding like it’s going to be a big one with the potential for her to be the highest-paid female director coming off the strongest film that the studio has had in some time.  According to Deadline, the film had the best opening ever for a title by a female director and the best global haul for a live-action film directed by a woman as well as the third-highest grossing film in Warner Bros.’ history (behind only Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight series).

The first film is still in theaters and rolling in the money as about to cross the $800 million mark worldwide so far and is likely to be the highest grossing summer film domestically.

The sequel will be written by Patty Jenkins and Geoff Johns and will star (at least) Gal Gadot.

Wonder Woman is now the third highest grossing domestic film of all time for Warner Bros. behind The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises at $533 and $448 million respectively.
