Nozomi Entertainment has now scheduled the second and third volumes of the 20th-anniversary ultra edition of Revolutionary Girl Utena series that they’re working through this fall, a set that will bring out the 39-episode series plus the theatrical feature. For those not interested in all the bells and whistles of the previously solicited premium edition, a regular edition is also being released similar to how the DVDs came out with the three sagas. The first one, the Student Council Saga, is set for an October 3rd, 2017 debut priced at $49.99 where it’ll have the first twelve episodes of the series. Now, the second volume has been set for a November 7th, 2017 release while the third is set for a December 5th, 2017 date with the finalized cover artwork below. These’ll be priced at $49.99 as well.
Priced at $224.99, the big premium edition will be done up with a special deluxe 20th Anniversary Edition box that will include a replica Rose Seal Ring. a replica Black Rose Seal ring, and a gorgeous 250+ page art book. This is a limited release that will not be reprinted due to the materials being included. This set is scheduled to arrive on December 5th, 2017 with 1,060 minutes of main material and ten discs to hold it all. The Japanese and English language tracks are being done in PCM form.
On disc extras include the clean opening; clean closings; live action video for opening single; TV spot for opening single; promos; trailers; animated art galleries; Japanese staff commentary for episodes 37-39; full-length movie commentary by Director Kunihiko Ikuhara; dueling themes karaoke; behind the scenes of the movie with the English cast; and interviews with Director Kunihiko Ikuhara, Tomoko Kawakami (“Utena”), Yuriko Fuchizaki (“Anthy”), and the English cast.
The art book will include art galleries; episode commentaries by Director Kunihiko Ikuhara; behind-the-scenes stories; liner notes; and interviews with staff including Director Kunihiko Ikuhara, Director Tohru Takahashi, Assistant Director Shingo Kaneko, Art Director Shichiro Kobayashi, Character Designer Shinya Hasegawa, and Conceptual Designer Hiroshi Nagahama.
Plot Concept: When Utena was just a child and in the depths of sorrow, she found salvation in those words. They were the words of a prince, who wrapped her in his rose-scented embrace and bestowed upon her both a ring and the promise that it would lead her to him again. She never forgot the encounter. In fact, she was so impressed that she aspired to be like the prince and also help those in need. Now a spirited teenager, Utena attends the prestigious Ohtori Academy. However, her strong sense of chivalry soon places her at odds with the school’s student council and thrusts her into a series of mysterious and dangerous duels against its members.
