Ikemen Sengoku Episode 2“Ikemen: Secret Sketch”

What They Say:
My name is Sasuke. I was a graduate student, but one day I got time-slipped into a warring period. On top of that, it’s a different warring period that I learned about in history textbooks….

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
While the series didn’t kick off in a totally engaging way, and the CG isn’t exactly my thing, it had some amusing pieces along the way that made me a bit more interested in it than I expected. With this episode we get Sasuke and the others trying to come up with the right kind of picture to put up on the wall that will fill the space and be pleasing to Nobunaga as well. With Hideyoshi sketching it and the other two keeping Nobunaga occupied, you can see how things would go wrong so easily. It’s a good series of physical comedy moments that are thought up to distract Nobunaga and it does frustrate Sasuke a whole lot, but it provides for some cute amusement in small ways here.

In Summary:
In a way I almost feel kind of bad for watching and enjoying this as much as I do. I don’t get a lot of laughs out of it but there’s just something that clicks enough with the designs, the animation style, and the physical comedy elements that makes it a quick couple of minutes to take in. There’s not a lot here and the gags are all largely predictable but it just works in a way that I can’t quite put my finger on. The use of the two guys trying to distract Nobunaga while the expected awful artwork is put together simply works and I found myself grinning far too much and then chastising myself far too much for it.
